Online Coaching in the Development Sector
March 6th, 2009As part of my work I regulary coach international staff in development cooperation and peacebuilding. Although I prefer a one-to-one meeting in person, online tools enhanced the coaching possibilities as people can now be coached when in the field, provided they have some internet access.
Most internet access in (post-)conflict regions is not functioning very well. You rarely get enough bandwidth to get a skype call for more than a few minutes, but certainly not for an hour or so. Circumstances like these mean that for a coaching, you need a combination of asynchronous datasharing (like sending text or documents over email) and some form of online chat for the more direct exchange.
